ORIGIN OF GAME OF LIFE
The original game known as, ‘The Checkered Game of Life’ was created in 1860 by Milton Bradley. It was meant to be a simulation of the real life of an individual through his school days, graduation, jobs, marriages, children and ultimately retirement. The game was a modified checkerboard and played with a six-sided top instead of dice. The aim was to land on the good spaces and collect 100 points. While initially only two to six players could play the game, the modern versions allowed up to ten players to participate. To commemorate its hundred years anniversary, the game was designed for a newer look by Reuben Kramer in 1960. There were many re-published issues over the following decades with subtle variations being introduced each time.
For a game that is called “Life” it is necessary to make sure that every last detail and rule fits in with current times. In 1992, The Game of Life was updated to include Life Tiles which reward players for recycling their trash, learning CPR and saying "no" to drugs. Today, The Game of Life is played all over the world in some 20 different languages.
