Pictionary Junior is a simplified version of the parent game. Pictionary was introduced in the year 1985 while Pictionary junior has come out more recently in 1999. It has been positioned for kids between 7-12. Like the original game, it has a linear board, a timer and cards with words. The words are much simpler and easier and match the capabilities of a kid. It usually has only two teams with a set picturist in each team. It can be a fun game while keeping kids busy at home.
Pictionary junior has large colorful squares. When the picturist from the team is drawing, he/she is not allowed to use verbal communication and actions. It is famous among kids during birthdays and school parties.
Pictionary gained a lot of popularity when it was launched. Today it is famous all over the world and people even take part in world championships. The standard of the game is quite high and not suitable for kids below the age of 10. Therefore Pictionary junior was introduced so that these kids can have their share of fun with easier words. These words are something they can relate to. For instance easy words like farm, white house, school, window etc. Though the rules are almost similar to the original Pictionary, Pictionary junior can sometimes be done away with the timer. After all kids should have fun and Pictionary is all about messy drawings and laughing at them. Also, the cards have clues on them. For instance, “starts with P”.
There have been many editions of Pictionary junior. The first one that came about was in 987 when the game was positioned for kids as small as two years and above. Originally even before Pictionary junior there was a game called play and clay where the kids would have to mould sculptures instead of drawing. There are many variations called the Bible Pictionary, party Pictionary and trickier Pictionary junior. Bible Pictionary has phrases from the bible while the party Pictionary has words and themes containing party related.
Pictionary junior is among the best selling games for children. The manufacturers of the game are Parker brothers originally but various versions of Pictionary junior are also present in the market. Children old enough to read and draw should be encouraged to play Pictionary junior, as it is quite important from an educational perspective too.
It’s fast, furious and fun!
While the game is on, the kids are so occupied with drawing, guessing and moving ahead that there is hardly anytime for them to get distracted. With the timer it is even more exciting. Kids trying to pace up with sixty seconds end up drawing funny objects. It’s a gala time for the other kids. At the same time, it gives the children a chance in testing their drawing as well as vocabulary skills. Schools and playhouses should encourage such games that sharpen the skills of a child while they play and have fun.
